The Annapurna Circuit is one of the best trekking trails in the world. It is a classic long-distance trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trek consists of the contrasts between the green, terraced farmland of the Marshyangdi valley and the semi-arid environs of Lower Mustang. Thorong La River (5416m), which we must cross on a long day, to reach the sacred site of Muktinath separates these two areas.
Muktinath temple complex is a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. With that, the sunrise seen from here on Dhaulagiri is particularly striking. We will also descend into the world’s deepest river gorge. It is carved by the mighty Kali Gandaki, as it slices between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. The river meanders to the relaxing hot springs at Tatopani before ascending to Poon Hill for our last sunrise over the Annapurnas.
Although there are now roads on both sides of the Thorung La along the Circuit route, you can choose to walk on new trails. These trails have been completed away from the roads, allowing you to experience tranquil and uncrowded trekking. If your time is limited the road offers the option to shorten the trek by several days by taking jeeps at the beginning and end sections of the trek
